Trump Authorizes CIA Covert Operations in Venezuela
A media outlet reported, citing several individuals familiar with the matter, that Trump approved potential secret actions that may be intended to lay the groundwork for future initiatives.
Simultaneously, the report noted that the White House has resumed confidential communications with Caracas, during which Maduro at one stage indicated he could consider stepping down following a transitional period.
In a televised speech on Monday, Maduro cautioned that any US military involvement would signify the “political end” of Trump’s leadership.
He accused associates of the US president of “provoking” an armed conflict for political gain. Maduro reiterated that Venezuela remains open to direct negotiations, describing diplomacy as his administration’s “invariable” stance.
Since early September, the United States has carried out 21 attacks on ships in the Caribbean Sea and Eastern Pacific Ocean, which it claimed were involved in drug trafficking, resulting in 83 deaths.
Trump has also suggested that operations could target alleged trafficking activities within Venezuelan territory.
