Trump Claims He Is “Already Making Venezuela Rich and Safe Again”

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump declared Saturday that he is “already making Venezuela rich and safe again,” expressing admiration for the Venezuelan people in a post on his Truth Social platform.

The statement followed remarks he made Friday after meeting with more than a dozen oil executives at the White House to discuss investment opportunities in Venezuela. Trump said “a lot of money is going to be made,” describing the gathering as “a great meeting we had today with the biggest companies anywhere in the world.”

He added that these firms plan to invest “hundreds of billions of dollars” in oil drilling.

The comments come in the wake of a January 3 US military operation in Venezuela that led to the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. Trump announced that his administration would “run” Venezuela and its oil resources during a transitional period.

Maduro and Flores were subsequently transported to New York, where they faced an initial court hearing on drug and weapons charges. Both pleaded not guilty on Monday.

On Friday, Trump signed an executive order declaring a national emergency to “safeguard Venezuelan oil revenue held in U.S. Treasury accounts from attachment or judicial process, ensuring these funds are preserved to advance U.S. foreign policy objectives.”

The order emphasized that “the funds are sovereign property of Venezuela held in U.S. custody for governmental and diplomatic purposes, not subject to private claims,” according to the White House.
