Trump Says US Has Not Disclosed Iran Plans to Gulf Allies
Speaking in remarks cited by reports, Trump stressed that the details of Washington’s strategy remain private. “We can’t tell them the plan,” he said. “The plan is that (Iran is) talking to us, and we’ll see if we can do something, otherwise, we’ll see what happens.”
According to the reported comments, which were later shared on social media, Trump noted that the United States is deploying a substantial naval and military presence to the area. He claimed the scale of the buildup surpasses the forces assembled prior to a US military operation in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of President Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores.
Trump confirmed that communication with Tehran is still ongoing, but cautioned that there is no guarantee the talks will lead to a clear resolution.
Reflecting on earlier negotiations, he said, “The last time they negotiated, we had to take out their nuclear, didn't work.” He added, “Then we took it out a different way, and we'll see what happens.”
The president was referring to US strikes carried out in June against Iranian nuclear sites, actions he has previously said “obliterated” Iran’s nuclear capabilities.
